- Utility Knife
- Wired Ribbon
- Tape Measure
- Mini Glue Sticks / Full Glue Sticks
- Mini Glue Gun / Full Size Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Lighter / Torch Lighter
- Softballs
- Flower Rose
Directions
Step 1: Cut & Peel Softball
- Grab a softball and the utility knife.
- Make a cut around the circumference of the softball.
(You may not get your cut exactly lined up but that okay)
- Make another cut perpendicular to your original cut around the circumference of the softball
- After you have finished cutting you should have 4 equal quadrants of the softball cover.
- Remove any netting or webbing that is attached to the inside of your softball cover
Step 2: Cut Petals & Triangles
- Grab a quadrant piece of your softball cover and scissors.
- Make a cut 2 inches down from the tip or pointed end of your quadrant.
- From the top of the petal to the bottom should be between 2 and 2 ¼ inch
- Cut the bottom of your petal in a circular cut
- Once you have your petal the right size you can use it as a template for your other petals.
- Take your scrap/leftover pieces and cut them into isosceles triangles (width = 1 inch)
- Next take another softball quadrants and use your template flower petal to make identical copies that will keep your petals the same size.
- (Repeat Triangle Step as well)
Step 3: Fuse Stitching
- Grab Softball Petal and fuse stitching of loose ends of softball with lighter/torchlighter.
- *EXTREMLY IMPORTANT TO FUSE STITCHING SO ROSES DO NOT FALL APART*
Step 4: Glue Triangles and Petals
Triangles
- Grab softball petals, triangles, glue gun, glue sticks and flower
- Plug in glue gun to pre-heat and insert glue stick.
- Grab softball triangle and add glue to long side of triangle.
- Glue Triangle to flower bud, long side towards the bottom point facing the top (Take extra softball petal or just an extra piece of scrap to cover your fingers from the triangle so the hot glue does not burn you)
- Hold for 30 – 45 seconds until glue is solidified.
- * Some flowers may have extra leaves that are up under your buds. You may want to glue them up under your triangles that way they don’t stick out. I’ve found that while making these flowers those extra leaves seem to be more of a hassle *
- Repeat this process with another triangle.
- When you go to glue your second triangle to your flower you need to get the tip of your triangle to overlap your first triangle’s tip.
- Glue third triangle
- When gluing your third and final triangle you need to make sure your bottom two sides of the triangle overlap the other triangles you already have on the flower.
- Make sure all of the sides of your triangles that have glue on them are all the way down and not sticking up.
Petals
- Grab one softball petal.
- Add glue to bottom half of petal.
- Glue petal in between two tips of triangles
- Glue Petal on top of triangles (Take extra softball petal or just an extra piece of scrap to cover your fingers from the petal so the hot glue does not burn you)
- Hold for 30 – 45 seconds until glue is solidified.
- Grab next petal and repeat process.
- *When gluing your second petal you’re going to cover the first petal and you’re going want to cover up about half of the circumference of the rose*
- Hold for 30 – 45 seconds until glue is solidified.
- Grab next petal.
- Glue petal to the opposite side of flower that you glued your first petal
- Grab last petal.
- Glue in between the first and third petals on the flower. (opposite 2nd petal)
- Hold for 30 – 45 seconds until glue is solidified.
Step 5: Add & Tie Ribbon
- Grab tape measure, scissors and ribbon
- Extend Tape Measure to 3 ft.
- Take Ribbon and measure our 3 ft.
- Make cut with scissors at 3 ft mark of ribbon.
- Take Ribbon and add to Flower
- Tie and overhand knot
- Take ribbon strand below knot and make loop
- Next take ribbon strand above knot and bring it over the top and around the lower loop.
- Continue with top strand of ribbon and feed it back through to create bow.
- Fix bow to make it nice and even.
Pointed Ribbon (Extra Step)
- Take ends of ribbon and fold in half
- Make cut from inside of ribbon to outside with a diagonal cut.
- Repeat on both sides of ribbon strands
